Jason Wynyard, a renowned competitor in timber sports from New Zealand, faces a challenging battle against a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as stage four Burkitt Lymphoma. This uncommon cancer targets the lymphatic system, a crucial element of the body’s immune system. Despite undergoing three chemotherapy cycles since being diagnosed in May, Wynyard’s health has continued to deteriorate due to the cancer’s unusually aggressive characteristics.
Before starting the fourth chemotherapy cycle, doctors discovered that the cancer had continued to spread, outpacing the rate at which chemotherapy could suppress it. On August 18th, medical personnel informed Wynyard that all medical interventions had been exhausted, and he had a limited time left to live.
Despite the severe prognosis, Wynyard continues his fight against cancer with an integrated approach, focusing on natural remedies, alternative therapies, and spiritual practices. His primary aim is to strengthen his immune system, lessen inflammation, and boost his overall wellness. He is also using a hyperbaric chamber to improve blood circulation and tissue repair.
Wynyard, his partner Sharon, and their family have expressed their appreciation for the support and love they have received. Wynyard has chosen to continue sharing his journey to raise awareness about Burkitt lymphoma and the health system in New Zealand, as well as to inspire others who may be dealing with life’s challenges.
Wynyard has had an exceptional career in the world of timber sports, having started wood chopping at the tender age of six and turning professional in 1996. His remarkable achievements in the sport have not gone unnoticed. In the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list in 2017, Wynyard was named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of his contributions to the sport. The 49-year-old sportsman has won the individual world championship nine times and claimed the Stihl Timbersports Series a staggering 14 times.
Wynyard’s story is one of resilience, perseverance, and courage. His fight against cancer serves as an inspiration to many, demonstrating the power of determination and a positive outlook in the face of adversity. His contributions to the world of timber sports, his fight against Burkitt lymphoma, and his efforts to raise awareness about this aggressive form of cancer will continue to inspire and motivate many in the years to come.
